History

After 15 years learning his trade whilst working for North sails in Gosport Simon returned Home to Swansea and spotted a large omission in the services to the sailors of South Wales and Sabre sails was formed. Simons experience running the biggest production loft in Europe along with unrivalled technical knowhow gained from working on prestigious Americas cup, Volvo ocean race, Whitbread race, Admirals cup campaigns plus countless super yacht projects gave him a great first step in developing the business. It does however take more than just great product knowledge to ensure a successful business and Simon has placed great emphasis on customer satisfaction. Building a familiar relationship with all our customers is very important and the client is included and consulted during all aspect of their project.

This commitment to customer satisfaction has resulted in a huge customer database that now stretches well beyond South Wales and extends well into mainland Europe.

Simon started Sailing at a very young age with his parents on their numerous classic yachts. He quickly progressed to dinghy sailing and regularly raced at Mumbles Yacht club in Mirror dinghies before being selected for the Welsh youth sailing squad and graduating to 420's. He would go on to represent Wales and the UK in 420's finishing 3rd in the nationals and top ten in the European championships.

At 18 he started sailing keelboats and it was during the commodores cup in Cowes whilst sailing for Wales that he had the conversation that would lead to him starting his career at North sails.

15 Years there saw him rise from trainee to senior sailmaker, with responsibility for the daily running of the production loft and significant input into all the exciting and unique specialist projects that passed through the loft on a regular basis.

It was a direct result of his position within North Sails that led to his greatest sailing achievement. Whilst crewing on a J39 full off Olympic and Americas cup Sailors he lifted the CHS European crown and round the island race Gold Roman Bowl in one season.

Nowadays Simon lives a less hectic life and is a regular marathon runner and enjoys nothing more than time with his family.
